An independent guide for people who travel alone

ViaggiSingle

About us

An independent guide for people who travel alone, and for single people who travel. What we do, what we don't, and how we're funded.

Updated 27 October 2026Leggi in italiano

ViaggiSingle is a guide for people who travel alone and for single people who travel. Every page tries to answer the question traditional guides leave until last, if they ask it at all: what is this place like if I go on my own?

The site started in Italy, which explains the name ("viaggi single" means "single travel" in Italian). The English edition is written separately for international readers, not translated line by line.

Why it exists

Because solo travellers have specific questions and usually get generic answers. Where do I stay if I land at midnight? Where can I eat without feeling like an exhibit? How do I meet people if I want to, and get left alone if I don't? What does the room cost when I'm paying for all of it? If I'm gay, or trans, what does the law say, and what happens on the street?

Plenty of people are asking. Hostelworld counted 4.5 million solo trips booked on its platform between July 2025 and June 2026.1 Across the EU, households of one adult without children grew by 19.2% between 2016 and 2025.2 The travel industry still mostly prices for two.

What we do

  • Destination pages for cities and countries: a verdict, neighbourhoods, safety split by theme, places to meet people and eat alone, and the cost for one.
  • The Solo Score, a 0-100 index for each destination, weighted differently for each traveller profile, with a public method. See the Solo Score page.
  • Practical guides and articles, from a first-trip checklist to dodging the single supplement.
  • Open data. The datasets we build will be downloadable under a CC BY 4.0 licence.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell trips. We're not a tour operator.
  • We don't arrange dates. We're not a dating site and won't become one. City pages cover apps and local norms in an informative way, with safety advice.
  • We don't publish "where to find women" or "where to find men" lists. They get the numbers wrong and treat people as a commodity. When we publish demographic data, it's always by age group and with the cause.
  • We never use AI-generated images. Anywhere.

Who we write for

Everyone who travels alone: women, men, gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans and non-binary travellers, over-50s, first-timers, remote workers, people after a breakup, single parents. Inclusion isn't a separate section here, it's a layer on every page. The profile you pick in the "Travelling as…" selector reorders the information and the Solo Score weights, and it stays in your browser.

How we work

In short: every fact has a source and a verification date, every page is reviewed by a person before search engines can index it, and mistakes are corrected in public. Details are on the Methodology page.

We also use AI tools, and we say so. They help us find sources, draft text and check that every number has a source behind it. They are never a source themselves, they don't sign pages, and they don't replace human review.

The team

The editorial team is being put together. Author and reviewer names, with their own pages and the places they've visited, will appear on the pages they sign. Pages currently signed by the "Redazione" (editorial) account have no human reviewer yet, which is why they stay out of search results.

Funding

Our business model isn't settled yet. One rule is: if we use affiliate links, they'll be disclosed on the page, marked as sponsored, and will never change a verdict or a Solo Score.
